About Bespoke Mahjong
What happens when three women—one from advertising, one from finance, and one physical therapist—come together?
You get Bespoke Mahjong.
The story began during the pandemic, when boredom, injuries, and unexpected pauses created space for something new. Caren, Sheri, and Krista met on the pickleball court while each was recovering from injuries caused by playing just a little too much pickleball. When the games slowed, the friendships deepened.
It was during this pause that Caren introduced them to mahjong—the game she had learned from her mother, affectionately known as the Mahjong Master, who learned the game from her own mother. Caren taught Sheri and Krista how to play, passing along a tradition rooted in generations, connection, and time spent around the table.
One day, Caren played mahjong at a friend’s home on an automatic table. From that moment on, she called it the “Magic Table.”
The function was incredible—but the design wasn’t. It didn’t reflect the joy of the game or the homes it lived in. Still, she couldn’t stop thinking about it and soon ordered one of her own.
When the table arrived, Caren did what came naturally—she called Sheri to play and Krista to help assemble it. But they never even played a hand. Once it was set up, they all saw the same thing: it worked, but it wasn’t beautiful.
That moment became the beginning of the brand.
With Caren’s eye for design and experience in start-ups, Sheri’s organizational discipline, and Krista’s skill in mechanics and logistics, the trio set out to reimagine mahjong from the ground up. They began with automatic tables—rethinking form, function, and aesthetics—before expanding into everything mahjong.
And that hands-on approach never stopped. To this day, Krista is known for doing what others won’t—taking tables apart, diagnosing issues, and making things right. Her skill in mechanics and logistics carries through to Bespoke Mahjong’s customer experience, where thoughtful, responsive service is just as important as beautiful design.
Today, Bespoke Mahjong is a celebration of color, design, and fun. Every piece reflects what we believe: the game should feel as joyful as the people gathered around the table. From thoughtfully designed tables and accessories to playful palettes and modern details, each product is created with intention.
At its heart, Bespoke Mahjong is about connection—between friends, across generations, and through moments you never expect to change your life. Because sometimes boredom leads to creativity. Sometimes taking something apart is the first step to building something better. And sometimes, a simple game becomes so much more.
